BIKERS RIDE TO BENEFIT MDA

TOPEKA, Kan., July 7, 2009- Harley riders are showing their soft side by taking a ride to help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The 29th Annual Topeka Harley-Davidson Ride for MDA will take place on Sunday, July 19 and is sponsored by Topeka Harley-Davidson, Wal-Mart, Perkins, Wild Horse Saloon, Advanced Auto Parts, and Budweiser.

The Topeka Harley- Davidson Ride is the only motorcycle ride in Shawnee Country that directly benefits MDA. The ride begins at Topeka Harley-Davidson, 2047 SW Topeka Blvd. and ends at Wild Horse Saloon; 3249 SW Topeka Blvd. Registration Sunday begins with a pancake feed and registration at 9 a.m. followed by activities and then ride which departs at 1 p.m. There will be a live auction and Harley Bike Raffle at the conclusion of the ride, where a 2009 883 Sportster from Topeka Harley-Davidson will be awarded among other prizes and awards. Last year the ride raised over $30,000 for MDA and had close to 400 participants.

Harley-Davidson began its partnership with MDA in 1980 and since has raised more than $50 million for Jerrys kids. Funds raised through hundreds of rides and other special events help support MDAs worldwide research and also provide local families with services such as diagnostic testing, with the purchase of wheelchairs and leg braces, clinic visits, therapy sessions and summer camp.

MDA is a voluntary health-agency a dedicated partnership between scientists and concerned citizens aimed at conquering neuromuscular diseases that affect more than one million Americans.

Sturgis 09 Trip - Come Join Us!

If you are planning on going and just want to ride up with us then you are more then welcome for no cost, maybe a few bucks if you want us to haul your stuff. If you are looking for a spot to camp, we have a spot ½ block off of the main drag where it all happens right behind the Broken Spoke Saloon for only $200.00 for the entire week. There will be a support vehicle traveling with us so you can bring all the gear you would like and not have to carry it on the bike. Feel free to purchase whatever you like at the rally; well haul it back for you.

We have a local guide that gets us into whatever venue we want and we do daily rides all through the black hills for no cost each day of the trip. If you want to ride that day then just get up and go with us, if you just feel like taking a day to bum around the vendors and shop then that is cool too. You need to purchase tickets separately for whatever concerts you would like to attend.

Females without a bike are welcome join us and ride with one of the guys (there will be plenty of volunteers) or ride in the support vehicle. There are several ladies joining us already this trip so it will not just be you and twenty guys.

Cant make it the whole trip? We can haul your stuff up there and back and you can meet us there or leave the rally early whatever the case may be.

Memorial Weekend Sunday Benefit Concert

I worked with Eric Lira for several years at PTMW. He passed on at 45 from natural causes recently, his wife and family have been left with bills that the insurance won't cover. Please come help us remember Eric and give the family a hand. You will make a lot of new friends, and come away feeling you knew Eric, even if you didn't before.

This is an all ages event, free will donation. Alcohol permitted, BYOB and coolers.

It will be an outdoor event, weather permitting, or indoors if need be. Bring tailgate equipment if you wish, although there will probably be food available. Camping overnight is also an option if you want to stay off the roads afterwards.

Several bands have already accepted the challange, details to follow soon. We have the option of extending the hours if anyone else would like to perform, but have to know SOON!

Don't forget about our Meet and Greet this Friday at Sharkeys (it was a pool hall across from the old green parrot...not a pool hall anymore!!!) in the little strip of shops on 29th and Fairlawn....

The Stunads which includes the sax player, all the precussion instruments, and MARGO will be playing for us from 5:30-8:30....no cover of course....so WEAR YOUR DANCING SHOES!!!!

Lots of great specials....lots of good friends...lots of good times!!!

Kings of Swing to Perform at Benefit Dance

Theres No Place Like Home, a benefit dance for Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging, will be held Wednesday May 6th from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Great Overland Station, 701 North Kansas Ave., Topeka, Kansas. Honorary Co-Chairs for this years event are Duane and Beth Fager.

The Kings of Swing will provide music for dancing and listening with light horsdoeuvres prepared by Abouds Catering. Tickets are $15.00 each and may be purchased at Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging, 2910 SW Topeka Blvd in Topeka.

Proceeds from the No Place Like Home benefit dance will help JAAA assist seniors in Shawnee, Jefferson and Douglas Counties live independent and dignified lives.
